HICKORY

carya

Hickory is a member of the Walnut family. It is a species known by some as “the foodie tree” because early settlers and Native Americans used different parts of the tree to make cream, juices, marinades for cooking, tool handles, golf clubs and skis. This wood has a juxtaposition of contrasting colors from light sapwood to dark hardwood. Its flowing patterns of green indicate that it is a bold and dense wood. Milk chocolate and white chocolate tones give the wood a warm feeling. Some of its characteristics include: both light and dark tones, knots, light distressing, nail holes, grain variations and evidence of natural and man-made use.
